13 Months ~Amelia~

I feel like I am so far behind right now… not just blogging but house, work, everything.  I have all intentions of finishing Grant’s winter blog post… yes winter!  I have been keeping track of our spring endeavors to date for a future spring post and I just finished Amelia's birthday party post.  Needless to say, this kitchen renovation has really kept us extremely busy but I am VERY happy to say that we are 100 percent done with the kitchen and hopefully things will be getting back to normal around our house (And I still need to do one final kitchen blog!!).

We've seen Amelia's personality continue to evolve and her coordination continue to grow.  Overall, she is happy and silly and fun but her "bear" still makes an appearance occasionally.  The middle of the month was spent celebrating at her birthday party as well as a trip to the Wisconsin Dells when my parents were in town.  We've wrapped up the month with some nice weather and more and more outside time.

Growth:
Weight:  22 lbs
Height:  31”

These are estimate based on our scale and Amelia’s growth chart at home.  Amelia’s 12 month clothing has pretty much been taken out of the rotation and she is in 12-18 month and 18 month items.  Diapers are size 4 and shoes are size 4.  She has even gotten much more accustomed to actually wearing shoes and being somewhat coordinated in them.

Mobility/Coordination:  Amelia is still busy All. The. Time.  She is absolutely loving all of the outside time lately and following Grant around to play and ride on all the fun toys.
Amelia has learned how to turn around and get down off the couch feet first (instead of trying to crawl off head first) but decided to walk right out of the kitchen door (ignoring 2 steps) into the garage one day.  She enjoys getting in and out of chairs (her size and bigger if she can reach) and it often becomes a game.

Language/Communication:  Amelia is getting better and better at communicating via sign language and pointing/showing us what she wants.  If we say, “Amelia, let’s eat.” Or “Are you hungry?”  She will walk to her high chair or the refrigerator and sign “eat” the entire way.  However, she still has yet to use “words” for anything other than “Da da” and “da” for the dogs.  That includes no “Ma-ma” yet!  We’ll get there.  She listens intently when we talk and will try to mimic sounds back but nothing consistent/recognizable yet.

Personality/Amelia-isms:  As soon as you get her coat or shoes out, she starts waving bye-bye and blowing kisses.  She is an absolute ham with her cheesy grin and repeated waving.  Amelia has bitten twice at daycare this month because someone was creeping in her space so we’ll see if she follows in Grant’s footsteps with biting (we sure hope not!).  We aren’t sure where she picked it up but on most occasions she covers her mouth when she coughs.  Now this one is weird… Amelia likes sticking her fingers in something wet (bath tub, spilled water, puddle, etc.) and licking them (this can be a dangerous and disgusting scenario).  She will slop her hands around, sticker her finger in her mouth and pull it out really quick with a lip smacking sound… GROSS!

Amelia still lets us know when she isn’t happy usually by grunting (our baby “bear”) or throwing herself backwards.  In fact, the other night I was giving her and Grant a bath and Amelia proceeded to stand up over and over with me telling her no and sitting her back down over and over.  At one point, she got so mad and threw herself backwards in the bathtub hence nearly drowned herself!

Sleep:  Amelia still hasn’t quite dropped her morning nap completely.  Usually at daycare she is down to 1 early afternoon nap but at home she still likes to sneak in a second nap.  She has always been a good sleeper and we couldn’t believe it the other day when she slept for 14 hours one night and then took a 5 hour nap the following day!!!

Feeding:  Amelia LOVES milk.  That girl would drink all milk for every meal if we would let her.  We usually limit her to a 1-1 ½ cups and try to encourage her to eat her other food.  Honestly, she isn’t really picky about food either though.  She just loves to eat period and still out eats Grant on most occasions.

Teeth:  Still no new teeth!  That is 4 months without the emergence of a new tooth.  I can’t believe it.  She is still uneven at 7 teeth as well which is slightly baffling to me.  We’ll see what the future has in store.  We keep telling ourselves there have to be more coming soon.

Illnesses:  It’s been relatively quiet here this month.  Amelia had some ear drainage and hence probably a lot of fluid and junk but with ear drops for a couple of days they cleared up.

Brother/Sister Moment(s):  Amelia has turned into Grant’s little shadow.  At times, Grant enjoys the playmate (who doesn’t really play but destroys everything he is playing with) and at times Grant wants her out of his space and away from his toys.

Sneaking in some play time with Grant's wheel barrow while he isn't looking (check out that grin!)

Firsts:  We were able to take our first boat ride of the season and Amelia did very well and even slept for about half the trip.

Likes:  Swinging ~ playing outside ~ blowing kisses and waving ~ giving high fives ~ giving big, open-mouthed kisses ~ milk ~ Mommy, Daddy, and adores Grant and thinks he is hilarious

Dislikes:  being told no ~ sitting in the bath tub ~

Happy Birthday Amelia Grace

Amelia's 1st birthday ended up being a 3 part celebration.  She got to celebrate 1st by smashing a cake photographed by the amazing Jamie Gellings one week before her birthday.  A sneak peek here and more can be found on Jamie's website.

The 2nd celebration ensued on her actual birthday (and Aunt Kelli's who she shares with) at Blanck's Supper club with Matt's family and some of my family.  Mom surprised us by coming for her actual birthday and then again 2 weeks later for her birthday party.

We opted to wait until two weeks after Amelia's birthday to host her "real" birthday party so we would have more time to get our house back in order and also allowed for my mom and Greg to be here on Mother's Day weekend to not only attend Amelia's party and celebrate but also spend Mother's Day with us.

The weather was nice so we spent most of our time outside.  To be honest, I really held back quite a bit on the party planning.  I wasn't sure what to expect as far as the kitchen went and I was exhausted from all the dealings with the kitchen.  It worked out well that things were put back together for the most part by then though.

The cake was a last minute decision and made by a woman name Tina (cheap-$16 for Amelia's cake and yummy! Check out some of her work here at Tina's Tasty Cakes).  I was looking through Amelia's first birthday pictures and saw the picture of her giraffe and inspiration hit to use the giraffe for her cake and color scheme.  Otherwise there wasn't really a "theme" per say.  It all involved eating, socializing and having fun.
