Grant's Winter ONEderland

Well, I must say that I probably should have started a blog about 1 year and 9 months ago (aka when we found out we were expecting) but I am starting now so that has to count for something!  :)  I am going to pick up at Grant's 1st birthday.  When trying to decide on a theme, we really had a hard time.  I mean what do you do for a one year old's first birthday not to mention a one year old in Wisconsin in the middle of winter.  We decided nothing would fit better than a Winter ONEderland.

I have to admit that the idea was not completely original but I did have some original touches and thanks to the internet I was able to come up with some very creative additions to the theme.  The food options included cream cheese stuffed olive penguins, marshmallow snowmen, popcorn ball "snowballs," a penguin veggie platter, a snowman cheese ball, nutter butter "snowshoes," and puppy chow "snowflakes."  We also had some other non-themed food items but what's the fun in that?  Below are some pictures of the foods...

some of the spread...

Marshmallow Snowmen
Penguin Veggies
Snowman Cheeseball

Olive Penguins

Puppy Chow Snowflakes

Nutter Butter Snowshoes

In addition to the food, we had a hot chocolate bar or "snowman soup" complete with candy canes, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, whip cream, and of course Bailey's and peppermint schnapps for the big kids.

There was also a candy buffet...

 And party favors

For the kids...

And for the other guests to take home
S'mores that read "Thank you S'MORE for celebrating Grant's 1st birthday with us"

When it came to the cake... Grant did not disappoint.  I couldn't even get it out of my hands and on his tray before he was digging in!  He was a little timid and just touched it here and there at first, but before long both hands were in and they found their way to his mouth.

Snowman Cupcake Cake (His head was Grant's smash cake)

Milk break!

Overall, it was a wonderful and special day.  We had so many friends and family come to celebrate with us and we wouldn't change a thing.  A huge thanks to my mom who was in town because I wouldn't have been able to pull it off without her help!
